Blogging, differently

Between Pixels and Nature

For the past 12 years I’ve gone increasingly producing my output into visuals. I took thousands of photographs and shot gigabytes of videos, played around with video editing and story telling, and got hooked to YouTube’s endless amazing algorithmic recommendations. For 3 years now I’ve also worked seriously with numbers, data sets, charts and analytics. I got lost with words and it’s been years since I wrote anything in length. My mind is getting increasingly cluttered without an organized trail of thoughts.

I used to have several independently run blogs self-built with WordPress at different domain names, in both English and Chinese. After numerous hosting changes and several domain name switches, many things seem to have got lost. That’s OK, I thought, I still got the database backup. And I’ve since grown and matured so much compared to my early 20s’ mostly pop culture reviews posts (although I still read The New Yorker from time to time).

Blogging and writing is so much more than jogging down some words. It’s a way of clearing thoughts, connecting dots, and composing a systematic, methodic output of those reflections. And writing online — blogging, is a great way to share them. What’s the point of writing if no one else reads them? Language should be for promoting dialog, communication, and sharing. (Hint for upcoming post)

Got myself a mechanical keyboard (even though I use Mac, and Magic Keyboard is sleek, slim and quieter). Feeling each letter pressed down and seeing words appear one by one on screen with clicky sounds is a huge satisfaction. I feel almost like a real writer.
